Few American Pinot noir and Chardonnay producers possess the half century of rich history and experience of Ponzi Vineyards. Founded in 1970, the sister-owned winery proudly celebrates 50 years of winemaking this year. Recognized early on as a premier producer with award winning Pinot noirs and Chardonnays, the Ponzi family was instrumental in establishing the Willamette Valley as a world-class wine region. Moving ever forward, the second generation women, Winery President Anna Maria Ponzi and Winemaker Luisa Ponzi, continue their family legacy of winemaking excellence and innovation. Luisa was one of America’s first women to be formally educated in Burgundy before returning to Oregon. She carefully blends formal training with her lifelong experience working alongside father, to craft wines of complexity and depth that connect modern style with time honored tradition. Luisa consistently produces cellar-worthy and acclaimed cuvées adding innovative techniques to bring out the best of each vintage. Each wine is created within the state-of-the-art gravity flow winery (designed by founder Dick Ponzi) with grapes from the estate’s 130 acres of certified sustainable vineyards. The Ponzi’s remain committed to environmental stewardship in every aspect from vine to bottle. In 2013, the winery opened its doors to one of the region’s first seated wine tasting experiences, creating a travel destination with its modern architecture and sweeping views of the Chehalem Mountains. The Ponzis continue to support community, while continuing to set standards for the state’s thriving wine industry.
